Sleep Goes Hand in Hand With Diet and Exercise
You’ve probably heard of a vicious circle… you can think of sleep, diet, and exercise as a healthy circle. Each affects the other and, when you give them the importance they deserve, you’ll feel better, look better, and have more energy.
Sleep. You know that a good night’s sleep recharges your batteries. But it helps you in more ways than you may realize. Sleep improves your focus and can even help you manage your weight.
Diet. Sleep helps balance hormones (leptin and ghrelin) that regulate hunger; a good night’s rest will help you control your appetite. Conversely, a lack of sleep may steer you toward the wrong foods such as sugary treats and too many caffeinated beverages.
Exercise. An active lifestyle leads to better sleep. It may seem counterintuitive considering exercise gives your body more energy, but it also promotes restful sleep. Just don’t work out within 3 hours of bedtime.
Be aware of your own sleep, diet, and exercise patterns to see how you can create your own healthy circle.
